Joachim Francis Xavier


XAVIER began his legal practice in one of the largest and oldest firms in the country, Messrs Chooi & Company + Cheang & Ariff before moving on this firm. He practises both civil and criminal litigation. His clients include individuals and corporate entities both local and foreign. Xavier is also regularly engaged by foreign law firms who have no presence in Malaysia.

Having conducted both trials at courts of first instance as well as hearings at appellate stage, Xavier advocacy experience is as evident as the practical advice that he offers to his clients. 

As part of his civil practise, Xavier advises and represents clients in matters concerning intellectual property, land, tort and contractual disputes.

On the criminal practise front, in 2018 and 2019, Xavier has been much sought after for advice on disclosure obligations under the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Act 2009, Witness Protection Act 2009 and the Whistleblower Protection Act 2010.

Xavier has extensive experience dealings with authorities such as the Royal Malaysia Police, Royal Malaysian Customs, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, Inland Revenue Board, Immigration Department of Malaysia and Department of Environment, just to name a few.

Apart from litigation work, Xavier is regular sought after by his clients for training on law and procedure. Among the topics which he has trained on include dawn raid response, corporate corruption liability and anti-money laundering avoidance.

Apart from these, Xavier also advises and represents clients in matters relating to criminal liability (corporate and individual), regulatory enforcement, corruption offences, money laundering offences and other white-collar crimes. He also regularly represents foreign clients pertaining to immigration offences.
